Why Do Blue Light Glasses Turn Yellow - KoalaEye

Why do blue light glasses turn yellow?

Some blue light glasses have yellow lenses. They absorb blue light while allowing other wavelengths — units by which we measure light — to pass through. The darker yellow lenses are, the more efficiently they block blue light.

In the previous article, we discussed “What are yellow lenses sunglasses for?”. In this article, let’s talk about “Why do blue light glasses turn yellow?”.

How do blue light glasses work?

Using anti-blue light lens film reflection technology,  the glasses reflect harmful blue light, so the surface of the lens reflects blue light, and the substrate absorption technology of the anti-blue light lens will not reflect blue light. Anti-blue light glasses mainly reflect harmful blue light by coating on the surface of the lens, or absorb harmful blue light by adding anti-blue light factor into the substrate of the lens, to realize the blocking of harmful blue light. The blue light intensity emitted by the mobile phone screen was effectively suppressed by the use of anti-blue light glasses, compared with a portable spectrometer.

Why are blue light glasses yellow?

The material of the lens makes it turn yellow. If it's just blue and the lens is yellow, that's the material itself. Blue light glasses can weaken blue light entering human eyes. Blue light is mainly produced by mobile phones and computers in life. The blue light on the electronic screen is unchanged, so a film can only be designed on the lens to absorb blue light. This can effectively reduce blue light. The complementary color of blue light is yellow, so the yellowing of the anti-blue lens is normal. The material of an anti-blue light lens can effectively shield the blue light. If the blue light is removed from the white light we usually see, it will show yellow, which is a normal phenomenon.

Why do blue light glasses turn yellow?

The glasses are used for a long time. Blue lenses are usually light yellow. If the yellow is too deep, the resin lenses will oxidize and become yellow due to the long-wearing time. The lenses need to be replaced in time. Yellowing of the lens is related to the excessive secretion of facial grease, which leads to yellowing of the lens. The most direct way is to replace the lens glass.

Choose the right lenses for blue light glasses.

Since visible light is made up of yellow, green, and blue light, the blue lens blocks the blue light, leaving only yellow and green light. Yellow plus green is yellow, so what we see is a yellow lens. If it is viewed from the side, we will find that the lens is also transparent, with no background color, and most of it is yellow-green. The dark yellow blue lens appears chromatic aberration, and it can be more serious. So to block blue light and do not hurt an eye again, you had better choose light yellow lenses to prevent blue light.
