As for removing coating from glasses, there are some differences between plastic glasses and glass lenses. So, you need to recognize what the lens material is first.

How to Tell If Lenses Are Plastic or Glasses?

If you want to know if your glasses are made of glasses or plastic, the safest way is to ask the optician from whom you bought the glasses. If you do not want to ask the optician, there are several ways to differentiate them, such as sound, weight, and temperature.

Lightly tap the lens against your teeth or your ring. If the lens emits a high, ringing tone, it is a glasses. On the contrary, the plastic will have a low thud like sound when tapped.

Glass lenses are much heavier than plastic glasses and glass lenses feel colder to touch while plastic glasses feel warmer since it is a better insulator.

After learning what lenses you have, it is time to show how to remove coating from glasses.

My safety proscription eye glasses have a plastic coating over the proscription lense…I left them in the direct sunlight on the dashboard one afternoon and discovered the coating has separated from the lense.
How can I remove without damaging the glasses?

Thanks for this! My glasses have so many spots of coating missing.. It is very much like my glasses have not been cleaned in months! I am trying it out with some alcohol based hand sanitizer first, It’s kind of gel like, might make it easier to stick on. But I have isopropanol if that does not work.

Hello, I was reading a recommendation on your site.about removing the Crizal coating off my plastic lenses. It says to use an etching cream. Do you have a recommended brand or better description of what should be used? Thanks
